On Ukraine’s Unity Day, President Volodymyr Zelensky recognized the exceptional bravery and contributions of military personnel and civilians by presenting state awards during a ceremony held at the Mariyinsky Palace in Kyiv.
The event brought together medical workers, volunteers, servicemen, power engineers, and local authorities who played critical roles in defending Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity amid ongoing challenges.
Honoring Ukraine's Heroes
Addressing the recipients, President Zelensky expressed his gratitude:
"I want to thank you for the fortitude, unity, and strength you have shown since the very beginning of the Russian invasion. Thank you for preserving and defending our country. We owe you an immense debt of gratitude."
He emphasized the collective mission of achieving victory, not just for the defenders but for future generations of Ukrainians.
Recipients of the Presidential Cross of Military Merit
President Zelensky awarded the Presidential Cross of Military Merit to ten servicemen for their extraordinary courage, including:
- Sergeant Oleh Bernadskyi, who fought in Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk.
- Marine Junior Sergeant Serhiy Kryklyvyi, noted for his contributions in Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Donetsk.
- Lieutenant Colonel Serhiy Lytvynenko, leading the anti-aircraft missile division of the South Command.
Other honorees included reconnaissance specialists, combat mission planners, and air defense commanders, each demonstrating exceptional valor in the face of adversity.
Recognition Beyond the Battlefield
Apart from military personnel, civilians received high honors for their roles in strengthening statehood and public life. Awards such as the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, Order for Courage, and Medal for Saved Life were presented to individuals across various fields.
The ceremony highlighted the indispensable contributions of all honorees, including those from sectors like healthcare and local governance, who continue to sustain the nation during turbulent times.
A Collective Effort for Sovereignty
The ceremony was attended by notable Ukrainian leaders, including Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhny, emphasizing the unity between Ukraine’s leadership and its citizens in the fight for freedom.
